About Michael Leunig
His recovery began with mindfulness practice, and he went on to become a Mindfulness Master Practitioner, teaching courses to groups and to other therapists who wished to integrate mindfulness into their work. He later completed a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Salford University, a milestone he regards with pride. Following that, he trained in clinical hypnotherapy and now teaches courses on the subject.
Michael has worked for the UK mental health charity Mind and participated in the Blue Lights scheme supporting emergency service staff, including police, firefighters, ICU nurses, and counter-terrorism officers. He has also worked in NHS surgeries across the north of England using Solution-Focused Therapy. Now in private practice, his service has received multiple awards in recent years for psychotherapy and clinical hypnotherapy, and he serves as Mind Coach for the Oldham Rugby League Football Team.
He works integratively, drawing on person-centred principles, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural techniques, clinical hypnosis, mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique, and life coaching. Michael supports people facing stress, anxiety, trauma and abuse, anger, low self-esteem, depression, addictions, family difficulties, grief, career concerns, and major life changes. He aims to help people become unstuck, release burdens from the past, and discover their own answers while walking alongside them through the process.

Client-centred care, mindfulness and hypnotherapy online
Michael Leunig uses client-centred therapy to create a respectful, non-judgemental space where the client guides the pace and focus of sessions - this approach is helpful for building self-awareness, improving communication, and addressing issues like low self-esteem and relationship difficulties. He also integrates mindfulness therapy, teaching practical attention and breathing techniques that can reduce reactivity to stress and support emotional regulation, which is often useful for anxiety, depression, and coping with trauma. Alongside these, clinical hypnotherapy is offered as a focused, relaxed state of guided attention that can help with habit change, managing certain symptoms, and exploring patterns of thought and behaviour.
Finding the right combination of methods is part of the therapeutic process; Michael works collaboratively with clients to identify the approaches that best fit their needs, goals, and preferences. He adapts plans over time so therapy evolves with the client's progress.
Online therapy with Michael is available via video calls, phone sessions, live chat, or text-based messaging, offering flexibility for different schedules and comfort levels.
