About Barry Golten

Barry Golten trained as an Integrative Counsellor in the late 1990s and carried those early skills into a long career in the charity support sector, first working as a support worker and then spending 19 years as a manager. Around 2008 his interest shifted toward Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and he qualified in that approach in 2012, after which he began offering therapy, coaching and training based on solution-focused principles. In 2021 he joined KCA Training as a Trainer and Consultant, delivering courses in trauma, attachment and resilience while continuing to develop his own practice and teaching.

Over time Barry has brought together several strands of his training into a unified way of working: a person-centred respect for welcoming all parts of the self, a psychodynamic awareness of how past relationships shape present patterns, and a solution-focused belief in the client’s internal resources to move forward. He frames these approaches within a dependable therapeutic relationship built on trust and presence. Barry attends fully to each session and invites clients to join him on a practical journey of exploration, hope and new possibilities.

Integrative Approaches and Online Therapy

Barry integrates Internal Family Systems and solution-focused methods into his online practice. Internal Family Systems is an approach that explores the different parts of a person’s inner life - the protector parts, the vulnerable parts and others - to help people understand internal conflicts and work toward greater self-compassion and balance. It can be useful for issues such as trauma, attachment wounds and strong emotional reactions.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy concentrates on identifying strengths and small, practical steps toward change rather than only analyzing problems. This approach supports clients who want focused, goal-oriented work on issues like stress, relationships or life transitions. Barry also draws on person-centred principles that prioritise acceptance and a respectful therapeutic relationship.

Finding the right approach is part of the process, and Barry works collaboratively with each client to determine what fits best based on their needs, goals and preferences. Like other registered professionals and therapists, he adapts methods as therapy evolves so the work remains relevant and client-led.

Online sessions - whether by video call, phone, live chat or text-based messaging - offer flexibility for different schedules and comfort levels. These options make it easier to access regular therapy from home or while travelling, and they allow clients to choose the format that helps them engage most effectively with the therapeutic work.
